Shimizu Sushi Restaurant in New York City

Very good food, waitress super responsive and polite, and I had a lovely talk with the sushi chef. Great experience overall.

It was a very lovely restaurant. Quiet yet quality offered. The service was impeccable, quick and clean without skipping a beat. The steamed dumplings were light with such great flavor. The sushi was fresh. An overall good experience. Would definitely recommend based upon my visit.

Sushi was quite good. Got the sushi platter and it was fresh and quite well cut. They put a tad bit too much wasabi but that's just being picky. Service was fantastic.

Excellent food and service. Ippudo was incredibly long wait as usual and my party refused to wait. Shimizu has an excellent Sushi chef who knew what he was doing. Not the same level as Per Se, but very very good!

Amazing food and service. We sat at the bar and were hosted perfectly - kind and very personal. The chef's suggestions were perfect, the fish special and different and the overall experience was a delight. Pricing was also very moderate. I can only recommend this place and certainly will visit again.

Great food and service. A bit pricey but worth it. The sushi chefs will engage you in conversation and recommend dishes according to your likes.

The ingredients are incredibly fresh , wonderfully prepared, and the staff is pleasant.

Didn't even stay to order, the greeting guy was so rude. Said we could wait at the bar whilst he got a table ready, but then kicked us out into the hotel lobby to wait when some other customers arrived, before we had any chance of ordering a drink. Bizarre.

Service was amazing at 9:00 on a Tuesday night. Ordered the omekase and outside of the sea urchin being a little less than stellar every piece was thoughtful and well prepared

Service was really great and atmosphere was decent too, but the food could be better. The Maki rolls had too much rice and they were too big.

The service was great. I did not have the sushi, but all the other dishes were well cooked with good quality ingredients. The restaurant was calm and is a nice spot to catch up with friends.

I give it 4 stars for the food and japanese staff service. Ony bad experience was a group of very loud, drunk persons that was very disturbing. The management did not make any effort to have them tone down. So no courage by the restaurant.

Prix fixe $28, 4 courses. ginger martini, salmon teriyaki, green tea ice cream solid. other stuff, not so hot. quieter place. again.

Omakase Sushi Dinner...always consistent and fresh since the first time started dinning here over ten years ago. Finished with custard, not at all to sweet.

I was nicely surprised by this place for a first visit. The food is really, really good and very attentive service. Will go again.

I ordered the price fix dinner and I chose the sushi, oysters, salad and vanilla ice cream. The salad was a nice size very fresh and delicious dressing, not many restaurants include tomatoes but there was a tomato in there and the dressing was so good, call me a pig but I drank the dressing.The oysters we’re on a bed of ice, large size. super delicious! I felt like the chef went out and caught them himself this morning by the taste of the sea in them.I received a complimentary appetizer of some kind of a potato salady thing with a potato chips sticking in them which was good.The vanilla ice cream was a nice size but it had little ice chips in it which I don’t really like ice chips in my ice cream but the flavor was good.And addition to the green tea the chef brought some roasted brown tea something like that which was a nice addition. All in all it was a very good meal, quiet atmosphere, nice place

Mitchan makes sushi dishes that are out of this world. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life 🙌

I've never posted a restaurant review before, but Shimizu was so amazing that I felt obliged. From the food to the staff to the value, everything was top notch. All of the sashimi was spectacular, prepared fresh and with great care. To top it all off, the tempura ice cream was just the right blend of warm and cold, flavor and texture. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant and I'll go out of my way to eat here when in the city.

Fantastic! Definitely recommend the sushi for two. Possibly one of the freshest sushi I have ever tsated in the city. Chicken tempura was amazingly soft, perfectly cooked.

Wonderfully delicious selection for lunch with attention to quality and detail. Always try to make it here for lunch if I'm in the area on a weekday (the place isn't open on Sundays unfortunately).

If anyone doesn't know about Shimizu, well you've just been told. The owner selects his fish himself and the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into each plate in worth the price.Even their kitchen food is done beautifully.I recommend the wagyu beef carpaccio as an app.If you're into fried shrimp heads, order sweet shrimp and you will not be disappointed.The chirashi lunch special is worth every penny of the $20 or so you have to spend but you won't be left hungrier for more.

This is a find! The food, portion, price, service is just terrific. Lunch is fantastic and love their beef curry over rice and donkatsu. I'm a big eater and it's the best thing you can find to eat in the mid-town hell's kitchen area. Sushi is very good, the rice is prepared and cooked perfectly which is so neglected at other places.

Great great great!We loved this place and it immediately hit the top of the charts for us.Don’t come here if you’re looking for California/Alaska/Philadelphia or any other American sushi roll...Come for an authentic Japanese experience and taste!

The food was great, but I would go back for the service. Staff were super nice and very friendly. The drink menu was interesting to see and I highly recommend trying some of the Japanese liquor.

This is one of the best sushi restaurants in the city. Their fish melts in your mouth and their specials offer a variety of new experiences. The atmosphere is quiet and the service is impeccable.

Fresh sushi and great value. The prix fixe menu is a great deal for Midtown and all the courses were delicious. The fish was fresh and flavorful and the wait staff was quick and courteous.

Great selections at the bar. Various Japanese whiskey and sakes. Lots of shochu varieties. The bartender was very nice and educated me about the shocho. Menu items are nice but a bit expensive. Great for a unique bar experience.

Believe it or not, this is some of the most authentic food that I have had in a while. Having recently just returned from Japan, I was delighted to find this gem. I will be back.

I had an amazing experience. The waiter was attentive but not intrusive. I ate my meal in peace but never needed to ask for anything. The eel entrée is amazing. The entire experience was great. I feel the price is fair for the food I got.
